Cambridge Chemistry Race Competition
This competition is organized by Cambridge University in conjunction with Cambridge university’s Chemistry Department
Participants are exposed to solving theoretical problems such as
- Complex chemical problems
- Simple Riddles
- Difficult Problems
Participants are allocated two hours to solve these problems.
The examiner validates a team’s solution and hands them the following question once they’ve solved a question.
The number of failed tries determines the number of points received.
Participants are allowed to use the following materials during the competition:
- printed literature
- calculator
- Books
This flexibility is as a result of the goal of the competition; Rather than testing information, this quiz will assess problem-solving abilities and chemical comprehension.
You may be required to read data from graphs in some questions. As a result, we recommend bringing rulers as well. You may also bring any paper material,

notes, or handouts that you believe may be helpful. Except for dedicated calculators (not calculators on mobile phones, tablets, or PCs), no electronic devices are permitted.
Cambridge Chemistry Race Competition Rules
1 General points
1.1 Cambridge Chemistry Race (CCR) is a team competition for Y12-Y13 students.
1.2 Teams must consist of three to five students.
1.3 All students from a single team have to attend the same school.
1.4 There can be only one team from each school.
1.5 The competition is intended for schools from the United Kingdom. Teams from other schools may be
admitted at the discretion of the organizers given available capacity.
1.6 The teams sign up using an online form that is displayed on the CCR website. This is the only accepted
way to register a team.
1.7 In case of an illness or a different unexpected event beyond control, the team is allowed to replace a
team member with a another student from the same school.
1.8 The number of teams participating is limited and the places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served
basis.
1.9 An application is considered accepted only after a confirmation e-mail has been sent by the organizers.
If you have not received a confirmation, it is possible that your application has not been processed and
it is advised that you contact the organizers

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES
- The registration is open to schools
- Each school is required to register a team
- Three (3) to five (5) students should make up each team
- Venue for competition is announced each year
- The Competition is both physical and online
REGISTRATION FEE
Registration is totally free. but if you will be travelling, you will need to take care of the cost of transportation yourself.
